Jayne's Apples aka Find the Griswald
Martha Stewart came to me in a vision and told me to do this. - Clay McClure.
A basket of apples makes a lovely centerpiece for any buffet table but for a Shindig you might want to include paring knives so your guests can eat their apples like Mal and Zoe. For fun include a griswald or two.
My griswalds came from a .25 cent gum-ball machine. I wanted dinosaurs but I didn't see any.
First, get your sharpest paring knife and cut the bottom of the apple off, making one clean cut.
Next, scoop out the inside but leave a thick apple wall. Do this quickly so the apple doesn't start to turn brown.
Scoop out enough apple so your griswald fits inside and...
...replace the bottom so it fits back flush with the apple. Try to line the apple bottom up exactly as it was before it was cut to get the most realistic effect. The moisture in the apple will seal the two pieces together.
Wrap your apple in a damp paper towel and then plastic wrap and keep it in the refrigerator until your guests arrive. This will keep the apple from drying out which would otherwise cause the seam to show.
Can you tell which apple has the griswald? (the middle one)
